STANDING COMMITTEES

These committees meet monthly.

PUBLIC RELATIONS/COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE:
The Public Relations/Community Development Committee promotes the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce and the community through recognition of businesses and individual’s contributions to the support and betterment of the community.

Business of the Month – Recognition of a business each month for their contributions, involvement and improvement in the community. A banner saying “Business of the Month” is provided to hang in the selected business for the month they are being honored. A certificate is presented at a regular Chamber meeting and the newspaper publishes an article and picture about the business.

Quarterly Outstanding Public Service Award - Presented on a quarterly basis to an individual or individuals who participates and contributes outstanding service to the chamber and the community. Must be a member of the Chamber. Certificate is presented at a regular chamber meeting with an article and picture in the newspaper.

Annual Chamber Meeting – held annually at night with dinner, speaker/entertainment, state of the Chamber report and finances, and presentation of Businesses of the Year and Total Citizen of the Year. Meeting is scheduled and planned by Public Relations Committee. Is held in the late spring/early summer approaching the end of the Chamber fiscal year – usually May or June.

Meet on a monthly basis at specified time and place. Currently 4th Monday at 12:00 Noon.

Active since late 1989, the Conservation Issues Committee deals with a variety of resource-related issues ranging from community recycling to federal land management.

The committee’s areas of interest and examples of past, ongoing, and/or future projects include: Recycling / waste stream reduction, Research potential recycling of other materials, Coordinate Christmas tree recycling with various local entities, Help initiate drug-disposal program with Uintah County Sheriff’s Department, Energy and air quality, Promote energy and cost savings, reduce light pollution with efficient indoor/outdoor lighting, Promote local availability and use of alternative fuels such as biodiesel, Support Idle Free Utah campaign to conserve fuel, reduce air pollution, Promote renewable energy through programs such as 1BOG, Solar Home Tour, Help community prepare for electic vehicles through Project Get Ready Land management, Promote community trails (e.g., Kids’ Canal parkway, county trails coalition), Education, Encourage citizens/businesses to participate in conservation activities such as above, through newspaper articles, Chamber luncheon programs, displays at Home and Garden Show, etc. • Purchase booklets for Earth Day programs presented to local school children, Farmers Market • First explored by the committee, now has its own informal board and will be held for third time in 2010 Budget / Expenses

Committee Currently meets monthly the second Thursday of each month at 8:00 a.m. in the Chamber of Commerce Conference Room

Education:
This committee will work with all educational institutions in Uintah County for the betterment of our educational s

The committee meets once a month. The 3rd Wednesday of the month from 12:00-1:00. The meeting takes place at the Utah State Campus.

SEPARATE ENTITIES

These committees meet regularly.

Dinah-Mites:
The Dinah Mites are the "good-will ambassadors" of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce and as such shall devote themselves to the fostering of goodwill within the Vernal area and the surrounding areas of Utah, Colorado and Wyoming. The Dinah Mites will work toward these goals in any manner approved by the Chamber. To promote goodwill among all inter-related groups, factions, businesses, educational organizations, churches, civic clubs and government agencies. To meet with visiting dignitaries, public officials, business and civic leaders. To plan at least one goodwill trip annually to communicate within Uintah, Duchesne, or Daggett Counties. To visit annually with local and state elected officials.

Vernal Area Chamber Foundation:
The Foundation owns and maintains the Schaefermeyer Building located at 134 West Main. They are responsible for the maintenance of the property and grounds.

AD HOC (EVENT) COMMITTEES

These committees meet on an as-needed basis.

Business Symposium:
Opportunity to listen to keynote speakers, business oriented break out sessions, business booths and networking

Health Fair:
An annual gathering on the first Saturday in May, for vendors and sponsors to promote the health of the community.

Trees for Charity:
Annual event held the Monday after Thanksgiving. Auction of beautifully decorated trees to raise money for various charities.

Water Conference:
The opportunity to listen to Key note speakers and have educational break-out sessions about water.
